Investigating the Influence of Joint Angles on Rock Mechanical Behavior of Rock Mass Using Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional Numerical Models

Numerical testing is an ideal method in the research on mechanical behaviors of jointed rock. However, there are few systematic studies focused comparison between two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) simulation effects rock behaviors, particularly those In this paper, a particle flow model was established by utilizing PFC2D PFC3D to represent materials, (especially rock) (uniaxial compressive strength UCS, tensile TS, crack initiation stress level Kσ, pattern initiation) 2D 3D models were compared analyzed. As expected, result shows that UCS TS showed increasing tendency with increase joint angle (β) for both models, less than under uniaxial compression but greater tension.
